There are quite large indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, a sauna, tennis courts, and sprawling green gardens. It’s ideal for families or anyone who likes to hang around the hotel between hikes. Rooms are clean but quite basic, and the whole place could use a little refresh—so don’t expect luxury, even if the setting feels like it. You absolutely need a car, and it’s 20 minutes driving distance from the city of Horta, where both the Faial’s airport AND the marina (where the boats to Pico and São Jorge islands depart from). I really enjoyed staying there – and I didn’t even care that it is not exactly in Horta, where I prefer to stay when I am in Faial.

I stayed on the top floor, and the room was spectacular — full of light, thoughtfully decorated, and honestly quite romantic. That said, there’s no elevator, and climbing those stairs every time was a pain in the ass. From the moment she welcomes you, to the homemade breakfast, to the stories she shares about the island, the people, and her own family, staying at Quinta do Canto feels deeply personal. It’s the kind of hospitality that leaves you nostalgic before you’ve even left.
Quinta do Vale
Quinta do Vale is a peaceful, green hideaway just outside Horta. The property has only eight rooms, which keeps things calm and cozy, and the huge garden and swimming pool make it feel like your own little retreat. There’s even a Turkish bath on-site, which is a rare bonus in Faial. It’s especially convenient for those with a car, since there’s ample private parking right inside the gates. Just know that the village itself isn’t anything special, and you’ll probably want to drive into Horta for dinner, which is a bummer. The bed is huge and comfortable, there’s loads of wardrobe space if you’re staying a while, and the kitchen is fully equipped — including a small dishwasher. But the nicest thing is that the fridge comes stocked with water, milk, wine, and snacks — a real lifesaver if you arrive late and everything’s closed.
Tecor leans a bit nouveau riche for my personal taste — lots of shiny finishes and bold choices — but hey, that’s subjective. Comfort-wise, though, My Way in Azores really nails it.
Lofts Azul Pastel
Lofts Azul Pastel is a bright and breezy studio stay with postcard-worthy views over the ocean and the surrounding countryside.
