This is one of those places that just feels right. H18 is a charming little guesthouse about 10 minutes on foot from the center of Horta — close enough to be convenient, but tucked away in a quieter corner of town. Set in a spacious property with views of both the ocean and the Pico island, Azoris Faial Garden – Resort Hotel is as close as you’ll get to a full-service resort. There are quite large indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, a sauna, tennis courts, and sprawling green gardens. It’s ideal for families or anyone who likes to hang around the hotel between hikes. Rooms are clean but quite basic, and the whole place could use a little refresh—so don’t expect luxury, even if the setting feels like it. The owners are lovely and genuinely care. Downsides? You absolutely need a car, and it’s 20 minutes driving distance from the city of Horta, where both the Faial’s airport AND the marina (where the boats to Pico and São Jorge islands depart from). It’s also one of the few places in Faial that offers triple rooms — ideal if you’re traveling with kids or in a group of friends. I really enjoyed staying there – and I didn’t even care that it is not exactly in Horta, where I prefer to stay when I am in Faial.
Largo Bispo Boutique Hostel
Largo Bispo Boutique Hostel is a beautifully restored gem right in front of Horta’s market — perfect for grabbing fresh fruit in the morning or just soaking up local life. The vibe is more boutique hotel than hostel, with minimalist design, exposed stone walls, and stylish common areas that make you want to linger.
I stayed on the top floor, and the room was spectacular — full of light, thoughtfully decorated, and honestly quite romantic. That said, there’s no elevator, and climbing those stairs every time was a pain in the ass. Still, the charm of the place, the lovely staff, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere make it one of the best stays in Faial if you want both character and location.
Porto Pim Bay
Porto Pim Bay is a brilliantly located guesthouse right by the beach—a real perk if you’re early for a morning swim or sunset wander. Everything is spotless and well cared for, but what really makes the experience unforgettable is Maria. She’s not just the host — she’s the heart of the place. From the moment she welcomes you, to the homemade breakfast, to the stories she shares about the island, the people, and her own family, staying at Quinta do Canto feels deeply personal. It’s the kind of hospitality that leaves you nostalgic before you’ve even left.
Quinta do Vale
Quinta do Vale is a peaceful, green hideaway just outside Horta. The property has only eight rooms, which keeps things calm and cozy, and the huge garden and swimming pool make it feel like your own little retreat. There’s even a Turkish bath on-site, which is a rare bonus in Faial. It’s especially convenient for those with a car, since there’s ample private parking right inside the gates. Just know that the village itself isn’t anything special, and you’ll probably want to drive into Horta for dinner, which is a bummer. My Way in Azores
My Way in Azores is just a few steps from the ferry terminal, which makes it convenient if you’re arriving by boat or planning island-hopping adventures. The apartments are ultra-modern and come with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
The bed is huge and comfortable, there’s loads of wardrobe space if you’re staying a while, and the kitchen is fully equipped — including a small dishwasher. But the nicest thing is that the fridge comes stocked with water, milk, wine, and snacks — a real lifesaver if you arrive late and everything’s closed.
Tecor leans a bit nouveau riche for my personal taste — lots of shiny finishes and bold choices — but hey, that’s subjective. Comfort-wise, though, My Way in Azores really nails it.
Lofts Azul Pastel
Lofts Azul Pastel is a bright and breezy studio stay with postcard-worthy views over the ocean and the surrounding countryside. Each unit is a small, self-contained haven — with a kitchenette, dining table, living area, bedroom, and bathroom all laid out in a smart, open-plan design. It’s spacious, and filled with natural light. The studios also come with air conditioning, a TV, hairdryer, and free parking right outside.
One of the standout perks here is the daily breakfast replenishment: bolo lêvedo, fresh bread, juice, milk, yoghurts, fruit, cheese, presunto, cake, and bottled water — all waiting in your fridge, every day. It’s perfect!
