I already wrote an article about where to stay in Terceira island, detailed the advantages and the disadvantages of staying at each specific city / town in the island, but it was missing an overall list of the best hotels in Terceira island. Here it is – enjoy it! :)
Angra do Heroísmo
Angra do Heroísmo is by far the most beautiful city in the Azores island and a great place to stay in the island. Here are its best hotels:
The Shipyard – Angra
The Shipyard – Angra is a four-star hotel and it’s difficult to find anything bad to say about it because it really is one of the best hotels in Terceira island. It is a very modern hotel, featuring very spacious and comfortable studios and apartments, which, in addition to being soundproofed, have a well-equipped kitchenette. Some apartments even include a balcony with a beautiful view of the sea, which is great!
The Shipyard – Angra also has a gym, and a restaurant with fantastic food and a wine list to match. Furthermore, it has free parking, which is very convenient if you decide to rent a car in the Azores.
The location of this hotel is excellent, 600 meters from the Prainha Bathing Area.
Zenith – Boutique Hotel & Spa
The Zenith Boutique Hotel & Spa is a 4-star hotel located in a recently renovated 18th century manor, with sophisticated decor in warm tones, that creates an intimate and relaxing environment. The bedrooms are fantastic; some of them have a balcony and a sofa bed, others even have a standalone bathtub in front of the bed!
The Zenith Boutique Hotel & Spa has an outdoor pool (open all year round), indoor pool, spa, sauna, gym, restaurant and bar, a garden and a shared lounge.
Another thing that I really like about the Zenith Boutique Hotel & Spa is the fact that it provides bicycle rental services as well as other activities such as whale watching, horse riding, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, etc.
The only problem is that this hotel does not provide parking in an area where parking is a bit difficult.
Hotel Cruzeiro
Hotel Cruzeiro is a 4-star hotel with a delightful green decor that reflects the island’s natural landscapes. Some rooms have a sofa bed and there is also the option of booking an apartment with a kitchen with oven, dishwasher and minibar.
Hotel Cruzeiro has a very good breakfast, with a wide variety and quality products – you can even order an early breakfast if you have an early morning flight.Another thing I like about Hotel Cruzeiro is the fact that it has private parking, and that it is located just 600 meters from Prainha, one of the best beaches in the Azores.
Pousada de Angra do Heroísmo
I’m a huge fan of Pousadas de Portugal, a circuit of guesthouses in Portuguese territory, generally located in historic buildings or with a unique location. And this is also the case with the Pousada de Angra do Heroísmo, located on top of a cliff, in a 16th century fortress, known as Castelinho de São Sebastião.
It is a modern hotel, although with a slightly more outdated decor, but it is still tastefully decorated. But this detail is largely offset by a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean that you can enjoy from its two outdoor swimming pools, a larger one for adults and a smaller one for children, which makes this one of the best hotels in Terceira island for families.
Angra Marina Hotel
The Angra Marina Hotel is a 5-star hotel with a modern decor that features huge windows facing the Atlantic Ocean, which I personally love. The rooms are elegant and spacious, and some even have a hot tub overlooking the marina. There are also apartments equipped with kitchenettes and living rooms with sofas. Connecting rooms are available, which is very convenient for families.
The hotel has an indoor pool with panoramic views, spa, restaurant and bar and free parking.
Azoris Angra Garden
The Azoris Angra Garden was the first hotel to exist in Angra do Heroísmo, having survived an earthquake in 1980. Therefore, it is not only one of the best hotels in the island of Terceira, but also one of the most historic.
The decoration of the common areas is modern and beautiful. The rooms are not extremely modern, but beautiful and tasteful, with very comfortable beds (although some are too small for my taste, to be honest).
The Azoris Angra Garden also has a bar, spa (sauna, hot tub and massages), indoor pool (without heated water), gym and garden (the view of the garden is magnificent).
It has an excellent location, in the Main Square of Angra do Heroísmo and the historic center, right in front of the beautiful Duque da Terceira garden and with taxis right outside the hotel.
Quinta da Nasce Água
Quinta da Nasce Água stands out from the other best hotels in Terceira Island because it was, at one time, a real farm, very fertile and productive. It is, therefore, excellent for families with children, as, in addition to the wonderful environment, it has rooms and studios that can accommodate up to 4 people. The studios and apartments in particular have a fully equipped kitchenette, including a washing machine and clothes drying rack.
Quinta da Nasce Água has an outdoor pool and a large garden, both beautiful, and a restaurant. It also has a barbecue area and a picnic area, which largely compensates for the fact that it is not located as close to the coast as other hotels on this list.
Bicycle rental services are available at Quinta da Nasce Água, and windsurfing and cycling can also be enjoyed nearby.
Hotel do Caracol
I really like Hotel do Caracol because it has a large wooden terrace with a swimming pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean (in other words, the view is beautiful from any point in the hotel). But if it weren’t for that, for me it would already be one of the best hotels in Terceira island 🙂 In addition, it has a spa, outdoor pool, heated indoor pool and a hot tub, restaurant and bar and a garden, all areas with Wi-Fi. , which is very convenient.
Another peculiarity of Hotel do Caracol (which will please many people) is that it accepts pets in the hotel’s rooms and social areas (lobby and terraces).
The hotel is located in the middle of the Silveira bathing area, with the landscape of Monte Brasil.
Terceira Mar Hotel
Terceira Mar Hotel is a 4-star seaside hotel, with beautiful, modern decor, using mostly dark woods and warm colors in the rooms. The common areas are equally sophisticated.
The hotel has an indoor pool and an outdoor saltwater infinity pool and a large garden with palm trees overlooking Fanal Bay and the incredible Monte Brasil; a restaurant (all glass), bar, a terrace, gym, spa (with sauna, jacuzzi and massages) and meeting rooms. However, it organizes water aerobics classes in the indoor pool, which makes it difficult to relax if that is your intention, and the spa area is a little outdated.
However, Terceira Mar Hotel has a fantastic breakfast served à la carte with a variety of breads and regional products, as well as a buffet with cold and hot meats. It is also possible to request a gluten-free breakfast.
Terceira Mar Hotel is located right next to the Silveira Bathing Area, and there is a beautiful walkway along the seafront with access from the hotel garden.
Palácio de Santa Catarina Hotel
The Palácio de Santa Catarina Hotel is, as the name suggests, an old palace completely renovated with a welcoming and calm atmosphere, perfect for resting. The hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool (beautiful!), garden and shared lounge, terrace and bar and (ample) free private parking.
Palácio de Santa Catarina Hotel is situated 700 meters from Praia da Silveira and Prainha Bathing Zone is 1.5 km away. This area is popular for walking and cycling, so the hotel also provides bicycle and car rental services.
Best hotels in Terceira island – Praia da Vitória
As I already explained on my guide about where to stay in Terceira island, Praia da Vitória is not particularly beautiful (Especially when compared to Angra do Heroísmo) BUT it has a strategic location, near the airport of Lajes and close to some pretty cool beaches. These are the best hotels in the city:
Hotel Praia Marina
Hotel Praia Marina is a 4-star hotel with spacious, modern rooms with balconies overlooking the Praia da Vitória marina. All rooms have extra-long beds (>2 meters), which is a rarity in Portuguese hotels and some rooms have a fully equipped kitchenette.
It also has an excellent location, right in front of Vitória beach, which makes up for the fact that it is a hotel without a pool (bummer!). It is also just a 5-minute drive from Lajes airport.
Hotel Teresinha
Hotel Teresinha is a 3-star hotel with a more outdated and traditional decor, but with very affordable prices (that is, with a good price-quality ratio). The rooms are clean and spacious and the hotel has a great outdoor pool and a huge garden, as well as a bar, a shared lounge and free private parking.
Hotel Teresinha also has a great location – in Praia da Vitória, in a quiet and peaceful area, 500 meters (5 minutes on foot) from Praia Grande and 12 minutes on foot from Praia Pequena. There are good restaurant options nearby. The hotel is just a few meters from the so-called Green Zone, a place created for walks, where there is also a children’s playground.
Atlântida Mar Hotel
Atlântida Mar Hotel is a 4-star hotel with modern decor in colorful tones. Rooms are spacious, and suites even have a seating area and a small kitchenette with a microwave and refrigerator, which is very convenient.
The hotel has an incredible outdoor swimming pool, accompanied by a jacuzzi next door, children’s playground (great for families), gym, sauna and bar and breakfast is served in a panoramic room overlooking the sea.
The Atlântida Mar Hotel has a privileged location on the Marginal of the city of Praia da Vitória, close to many beaches: Praia da Riviera, Praia dos Sargentos bathing area and the Praia Grande bathing area.
