Where to stay in Graciosa island: the only hotel (and a hostel so good it feels like a hotel!)
Boa Nova Hostel
If you want a cozy, budget-friendly spot right by the water, Boa Nova Hostel is an absolute steal. Run by the super welcoming Maria, this property sits steps away from the oceanfront in Santa Cruz da Graciosa, the main village on the island, giving you epic sea views from the terrace and walk-to-everything convenience.
Moreover, it has a shared kitchen and barbecue facilities outside, making it one of the best places on the island to make new friends.
Boa Nova Hostel offers a mix of room options, whether you’re looking for budget-friendly dorm beds, cozy private doubles (some with private balconies overlooking the ocean), and even a family room. The cherry on top? You get air conditioning, free coffee AND pastries! :)
Hotel da Graciosa
If you want a traditional hotel setup with a daily breakfast buffet and a swimming pool, Hotel da Graciosa is literally your only option on the island. Sitting right above the Bay of Porto da Barra, the ocean views from the balconies are fantastic, and the staff couldn’t be more welcoming. It’s clean, comfortable, and just a short fifteen-minute walk into Santa Cruz da Graciosa.
That said, the overall vibe feels stuck in the mid-2000s, so don’t expect the cozy rustic charm of the island’s country houses. The included breakfast is convenient, but the dinner menu is pretty average—you’ll definitely want to head into town for meals. Ultimately, Hotel da Graciosa is a solid, reliable choice if you refuse to sacrifice hotel amenities, like a swimming pool (probably the only one in the entire island!).

Casa do Paúl
If you’re wondering where to stay in Graciosa island for an authentic local feel, Casa do Paúl is a winner. Located in Santa Cruz da Graciosa, it sits right across from the sea and is just a easy 5-minute walk from the main town square.
Casa do Paúl isn’t a single home—it’s split into two distinct self-catering options: a cozy 1-bedroom apartment (ideal for couples) and a massive 4-bedroom house that fits up to 8 people. Both units come with fully equipped kitchens, air conditioning, and access to a garden terrace with outdoor barbecue facilities.
The owner, João, is awesome and he often drops off fresh island treats. For the oceanfront views, walkability, and space, Casa do Paúl is easily one of the best bases on the island.
Casa de Campo Rocio do Mar
If you’re looking for sleek, contemporary style, Casa de Campo Rocio do Mar takes the crown for the most modern decor on the entire island. Split into two apartments—a cozy one-bedroom and a roomier two-bedroom option—it’s designed top-to-bottom for high-end self-catering comfort with full kitchens, clean lines, and tons of light.
Out back, there’s an amazing private yard with beanbag chairs, making it the best spot to relax after a long day of exploring the island. Add in stunning direct ocean views right off the terrace, and you’ve got the ultimate mix of stylish modern comfort and seaside chill.
Portas do Ilhéu
If you want front-row seats to Graciosa’s coast, Portas do Ilhéu, in the sleepy village of Praia (São Mateus), is a total knockout. Located right on the water overlooking the famous Ilhéu da Praia islet, this spot puts you steps away from the island’s rare sandy beach and natural swimming spots.
Portas do Ilhéu features 1-bedroom holiday homes that blend traditional island charm with modern comforts like king-sized beds, well equipped kitchenettes, and private terraces built for sea-gazing.
The host, Isabel, treats guests like family, leaving incredible welcome baskets full of local cheese, bread, and wine. What else do you need to kick start your stay in the island?! :)
Quinta do Fragoso
If you want total rustic charm and pure peace, Quinta do Fragoso is a drop-dead gorgeous choice. Located in the south of the island, this spot features two traditional country houses that are insanely pretty and packed with authentic Azorean character.
Quinta do Fragoso sits in a quiet location away from town, which means you get perfectly silent nights and the most unbelievable sunsets right from the porch hammock. Location-wise, it’s super convenient—there’s a grocery store just 800 meters away, and the famous Carapacho natural pools are a quick 3-minute drive down the road.
The kitchen could be a little better stocked with extra gear, but having a washing machine on-site was a massive lifesaver for laundry. If you want traditional aesthetics, total tranquility, and easy access to Carapacho, you’ll fall in love with this place.
Casa do Padre
If you want front-row sea views with unbeatable coastal calm, Casa do Padre is THE place. Decor-wise, it nails a breezy nautical aesthetic that—paired with spacious rooms and a beautiful picture window looking right out over the Atlantic—, gives you an incredible sense of peace the moment you walk in.
The layout is packed with thoughtful touches: there’s a cozy coffee nook by the dining room window that doubles as a prime lookout post (especially cozy on a rainy day), a dedicated corner in the living room for morning yoga or stretching, and an outdoor barbecue in the back yard.
I just loved, loved loved Casa do Padre and I think you will too :)
Quinta dos Frutos
If you’re after a slow-paced, back-to-basics farm vibe, Quinta dos Frutos offers a cozy rural stay in the island’s interior, near Guadalupe (a suuuper cute town that I mentioned on my article of the best things to do in Graciosa island).
Set inside a massive 7,000 m² fruit orchard, this property features traditional stone cottages (T1 and T2 setups) surrounded by orange trees. It’s sooo romantic :) You will also get access to an outdoor barbecue area, free-to-use bikes, shared laundry facilities, and the unbeatable warmth from the host, Dona Natalina.
However, Quinta dos Frutos is on the more basic, old-fashioned side—the furniture and kitchen appliances are quite dated, and you won’t get dramatic ocean views right from your window. But if you don’t mind a rustic setup, the payoff is total tranquility.
Where to stay in Graciosa island: a beautiful B&B
Casa da Madrinha Graciosa
If you want an authentic, budget-friendly taste of island life, Casa da Madrinha Graciosa is a charming rural guesthouse tucked away in a quiet neighborhood.
Rather than a full-service B&B, this is a beautifully restored country home where you book individual rooms and share the common spaces like the kitchen and the bathroom (yep, I agree – it’s horrible to share the bathroom!).
While there’s no formal cooked breakfast served, the hosts treat you like family by generously stocking the kitchen with a self-serve breakfast spread—complete with fresh local bread, cheese, jams, local pastries, coffee, and tea.
But for affordable rates, peaceful country nights, and genuine local warmth, it’s a wonderful, homey base on Graciosa.
